Foremost Cancel or Switch in California
You can cancel a Foremost policy any time — call 800-237-2060, or have us handle it as your broker. Unearned premium is refunded, normally pro-rata on a California personal auto policy. Never just cancel the card: the policy then dies for NON-PAYMENT, which reads far worse on every future application than a clean cancellation.

Foremost splits into THREE separate numbers where most carriers use one or two: policy service on 800-237-2060, billing on 800-532-4221, and claims on 800-527-3907. Ringing the wrong one is the usual reason a Foremost call takes twenty minutes. Claims is the only line staffed 24/7. The online account also sits on its own domain, myforemostaccount.com, not on foremost.com.
Step by step
- 1
Cancelling with Foremost, specifically
Cancelling Foremost goes through policy service on 800-237-2060, not the billing line, and the two desks hold different parts of the picture — service owns the cancellation date, billing owns what is still owed. Ask for both in the same call or you will end up making two. If the cancellation is because you are replacing the cover, get the new policy in force first: a lapse on a specialty vehicle can be harder to re-rate than on an ordinary car.
- 2
Line up the replacement FIRST
Even a one-day gap counts as a lapse and raises what every carrier charges you next. We bind same-day with the carriers we write — get the new policy active, then cancel Foremost, in that order.
- 3
Cancel with Foremost
Call 800-237-2060 (service and billing answer mon-fri 8am-8pm eastern; the claims line runs 24/7 and the billing system takes automated payments around the clock) and request cancellation effective the date your new coverage starts. If your policy is through our office, one call to (619) 363-4466 and we do this part with Foremost for you.
- 4
The refund
Foremost returns the unearned premium — the portion of what you paid that covers days after the cancellation date. Watch for it in the same way you paid; if it hasn’t appeared in a reasonable time, we can chase it with your policy number.

If you carry an SR-22
Cancelling a policy that carries your SR-22 triggers the insurer to notify the DMV, and your license can suspend again. The SR-22 has to move to the new policy the same day — this is the single most common self-inflicted suspension we fix, and it’s completely avoidable.
Foremost cancel or switch — quick answers
Which Foremost desk cancels a policy?
Policy service, 800-237-2060, Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm Eastern. Ask for the cancellation effective date and any outstanding balance in the same call — billing holds the balance separately.
Is cancelling a specialty Foremost policy different?
The process is the same, but the consequence is not: seasonal and specialty vehicles can be harder to re-rate after a gap than an everyday car. Bind the replacement before you cancel.
Does cancelling Foremost hurt my record?
A requested cancellation with no gap: no. A cancellation for NON-PAYMENT (the cancel-the-card shortcut): yes — carriers see it on your history and price you as a higher risk for years. The method matters more than the fact.
