DUI insurance in Fresno: the Van Ness Avenue courthouse, the Thursday DUI Court and ten licensed programs
In Fresno County the criminal side of a DUI is heard at the Downtown Courthouse, 1100 Van Ness Avenue, while traffic and criminal infractions go to the M Street Courthouse at 2317 Tuolumne Street. Repeat misdemeanor DUI cases can also be routed into a court-supervised DUI Court that meets every Thursday in Department 97B.
How Fresno’s DUI Court works
The court describes DUI Court as a post-adjudication treatment program for high-risk, high-need adults charged with subsequent misdemeanor DUI offenses. Defendants first appear in their home court department; those screened eligible plead guilty, have a jail sentence imposed and stayed, and begin supervision and treatment, with an alcohol-monitoring device required within 5 days of sentencing. A separate compliance track covers repeat offenders with little or no addiction and focuses on finishing sentencing obligations such as the DMV DUI program and any ordered interlock.
The court also states the rule behind its 18-month requirement: California requires an 18-month treatment and education program for people convicted of DUI more than once, and completing it is required to get a California license back.
Fresno County’s licensed DUI programs
The Department of Health Care Services directory lists ten licensed sites in Fresno County, all marked for the first-offender and 18-month programs. Two are in Fresno, D.A.T.E. at 1803 Broadway Street and Kings View Community Services at 1410 F Street, and two are in Clovis, at 855 West Ashlan Avenue and 1521 Tollhouse Road. The rest are in Sanger, Selma, Reedley, Kerman, Coalinga and Firebaugh.
Collision reports and the insurance step at the end
For a crash on Fresno city streets, the Fresno Police Department releases collision reports online or free of charge at its Records Lobby, but only to those Vehicle Code section 20012 allows, including the parties, their lawyers and each party’s insurance company. To order one you need the collision date and two of: street name, case number, an involved party’s last name or the registered owner’s last name.
At the DMV end, the repeat-offender flyer says a driver who owns no vehicle may qualify for an exemption from installing an interlock, but the suspension or revocation then runs its full length. Either way, full reinstatement requires proof the DUI program is complete and an SR-22 kept for three years.
